There are many mini frame packages available on the web-most range from $275 to $350. Those are basic old world minis with old world handling. I won't say they are unsafe but you wouldn't catch me on one. The primary benefits of my frame kit are two. One, I use race style tires which have rounded profiles not squared profiles which corner horribly (see section on tires.) And two, I offer race a style fiberglass body with side number panels.

The Wedge Outlaw Minibike National Race Body was created for the National Vintage Mini Bike Championship Race held annually in Nebraska. Few if any old minis had bodies-they just had seat cushions. This one has built-in number panels. The tail is short and is reinforced with buttressing angles for strength because minis tend to flip over backward and racing is hard on fiberglass, especially with young ones aboard. The overall body shape allows access to the engine and covers the upper rear area of the frame, which is a dead zone design-wise in rigid frame minis. The Wedge body fits most old school rigid mini frames. The seat cushion with a fiberglass base mounts to the fiberglass body with Velcro. The body mounts with four bolts. Every Wedge body I've installed needed side panel mods to fit stuff like; gas tank, carb, and/or filter-this is no big deal but just do it before you paint. The body does not have a gas tank but relies on engine own tank. This should be a fun project especially if you have an interested youngster.
